Day 04 | Favorite Relationship Within Doctor Who
I was always disappointed that we only got so little of bb!Amelia and Eleven. We never really got to explore the why of how the got where they did. We know that the Doctor pretty much shaped her childhood, and bb!Amelia surprised the Doctor by being so brave for such a little girl, but why did he decide to take her with him? Up until now he’d taken grown women who could take care of themselves in a pinch, why take a child along on such dangerous travels?
I think the short answer is that the Doctor had realized his pattern was flawed. All the adults he took eventually left him, and, in Ten’s words, “breaking his heart”. I think that the Doctor thought that if he took a child with him, raising her outside the walls of time and space that he would ensure a long, lasting relationship that wouldn’t end so easily. He wanted someone who would look on him and see the be all end all of their world. And Amelia wanted so badly to escape tiny little Leadworth that she would have gone with him anywhere, creating a bond stronger than anyone he had before. This was the entire foundation of the Amy/Eleven relationship that no one really counts because she was so small; but I think it’s one of the strongest and most important relationships in all of s5/6
